Bite Turbos & Bite Blocks
What Are Bite Turbos and Bite Blocks?
Bite turbos and bite blocks are small buildups or appliance features that prevent selected teeth from fully contacting. They may protect brackets, temporarily unlock a deep bite or crossbite, or provide clearance for tooth movement. Their location and shape depend on the treatment goal, and they are adjusted or removed as treatment progresses.
What Is It Used For?
They create temporary separation between parts of the bite. This can prevent teeth from hitting brackets and allow selected teeth to move without interference.
How Does It Work?
The buildups create contact at specific points when you close your mouth, keeping other teeth apart. Their position determines where clearance is created during treatment.
What Can Patients Expect?
Your bite will feel different, and chewing may be awkward initially. Some teeth may temporarily stop touching. Adaptation usually improves with time, and the buildups may be adjusted as the bite changes.
Care & Instructions
Choose softer foods while adapting and avoid hard or sticky foods that could damage the buildups. Brush carefully around them. Report a detached turbo, a sharp edge, or persistent difficulty eating.
