Orthodontic Elastics

What Are Orthodontic Elastics?
Orthodontic elastics are small rubber bands connected to selected points on braces or aligner attachments. They apply forces in a prescribed direction to help improve how the upper and lower teeth meet. Their size, attachment points, and wear schedule are specific to each patient and should only be changed as directed.

What Is It Used For?
Elastics help correct selected front-to-back, vertical, or midline bite discrepancies. They support movements that require coordinated forces between different teeth or between the upper and lower arches.

How Does It Work?
Each elastic stretches between prescribed attachment points and applies tension in a planned direction. The attachment pattern and elastic strength determine the force used to improve the bite.

What Can Patients Expect?
Mild tenderness may occur when elastic wear begins or changes. Consistent wear is important for progress. Your attachment pattern or wear schedule may be adjusted as treatment develops.

Care & Instructions
Use only the prescribed elastics and follow the demonstrated attachment pattern and replacement schedule. Do not double up or change the pattern yourself. Carry spares and contact the clinic if an attachment breaks or the instructions are unclear.
