What Are Orthodontic Miniscrews?
Orthodontic miniscrews are small temporary devices placed in bone to act as stable anchors during treatment. They help support movements such as closing spaces, moving back teeth, or adjusting the vertical position of teeth. They are usually placed with local anaesthetic and removed when no longer needed.

What Is It Used For?
Miniscrews provide extra anchorage when selected teeth need to move while movement of other teeth is limited. They may support space closure, molar movement, or changes in tooth height.

How Does It Work?
A miniscrew is connected to the orthodontic appliance using a spring, elastic, or another attachment. This provides an anchorage point from which a controlled force can be applied to selected teeth.

What Can Patients Expect?
Placement usually involves local anaesthetic, with brief pressure during the procedure and mild soreness afterward. A miniscrew can occasionally loosen and require reassessment or replacement.

Care & Instructions
Clean gently around the miniscrew as instructed and avoid touching or wiggling it. Do not adjust its attachments yourself. Contact the clinic if it feels loose or if you notice persistent pain, swelling, or discharge.
